Autofictional Sacrifice as a Means of the Poetic Body Contruction

This paper aims to demonstrate that one of the defining characteristics of autofiction is sacrifice as a key element, culminating in the formation of a poetic body. To this end, it explores how autofiction operates to generate poetic bodies through sacrifice, specifically in the case of María Velasco’s work Talaré a los hombres de sobre la faz de la tierra (I Will Cut Down the Men from the Face of the Earth). The analysis focuses on the author’s construction of a character based on the author herself within the narrative. This suggests that autofiction functions as a tool for self-recognition, driven by the act of exposing oneself to situations that hinder identity formation. Such exposure enables the emergence of a poetic product resulting from artistic affectation. Thus, María Velasco’s narrative constitutes a relevant and characteristic example of this type of sacrifice. The result is a metaphorically sacrificed body that becomes present through processes of writing, remembrance, and identity formation.
